Wait the 3-Day Period & Pick Up In Person

• There is a 3-day waiting period after you submit the online application.
• The license is available on the third day following submission.
  • Apply Monday → pickup Thursday or later
  • Apply Tuesday → pickup Friday or later
  • Apply Wednesday–Friday → pickup the following Monday or later
• The license expires 33 days from the date you submitted the online application.
• Optional: Pay an extra $5 at pickup to waive the 3-day wait.

Pickup Details (Important)

• Only one person needs to come in person to pick up the license.
• Bring with you:
  • Your confirmation number
  • Valid photo ID for the person picking it up
  • Clear photocopies (front and back) of the other person’s photo ID
  • Birth certificate (copy is fine) or passport for both people
  • Social Security numbers for both people
• If you don’t have birth certificates, you must provide parents’ full names and birthplaces plus your own place of birth at pickup.

• Pontiac Office (no appointment needed): 1200 North Telegraph Road, Pontiac, MI 48341 — Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Troy Office (appointment required): Call 248-858-0571 to schedule. Hours are generally Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM.

Fees (Paid at Pickup)

• $20 per couple if Michigan residents
• $30 per couple if out-of-state residents
• +$5 to waive the 3-day waiting period (optional)
• Payment accepted: Credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover), cash, or money order payable to Oakland County Clerk. No personal checks.

Macomb County

Apply Online First

1. Complete and submit the online marriage license application: Launch Online Application
2. Have ready for both applicants: valid driver’s license or Michigan State ID, Social Security numbers, date and place of birth, full names of both parents and their birth locations, and information on any previous marriages.
3. Birth certificates are helpful but not required. If you don’t have them, provide parents’ names and birthplaces plus each applicant’s place of birth.

Step 2: Receive Your Marriage License After submitting the online application, you have two options:

Option 1: In-Person Appointment (Primary Method)

• Schedule an appointment with the Macomb County Clerk’s Office.
• Only one applicant needs to appear, as long as they bring all required information and identification for both parties.
• At the appointment, the affidavit will be completed and notarized, payment collected, and the marriage license issued.

Option 2: Receive by Mail

• Complete the Affidavit for License to Marry, have it signed and notarized by both parties, and submit it with payment to the Clerk’s Office. Once processed, the license can be mailed to you.

Fees (Paid at Pickup or with Submission)

• Michigan residents: $20
• Non-residents: $30
• Waiver of the 3-day waiting period: +$10

Wayne County

Apply Online First

1. Complete the online marriage license application through the Wayne County Clerk’s Office: eVitals Online Application
2. Have ready for both applicants: valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport; Social Security numbers; date and place of birth; full names of both parents and their birth locations; and information regarding any previous marriages.
3. You will receive a confirmation number after submitting. Note: Completing the online application does not issue the license.

Step 2: Appear In Person After submitting the online application and receiving a confirmation number, one or both applicants must appear at a Wayne County Clerk’s Office location to obtain the marriage license.

• Bring your confirmation number and all required identification and information for both parties.
• The affidavit will be completed, payment collected, and the marriage license issued during this visit.

Fees (Paid In Person)

• If one or both applicants are Wayne County residents: $30
• If both applicants are non-residents: $40
• Payment accepted: cash, money order, or debit/credit card. Personal checks are not accepted.
